County Treasurer seeks re-election
Posted: Thursday, Feb 4th, 2010

SAGUACHE — Saguache County Treasurer and Public Trustee Connie Trujillo has officially announced her candidacy for re-election.

Trujillo has served in this position since 1995. She is a life-long resident of Center and will be running on the Republican ticket.

“I feel extremely blessed and honored to have served the citizens of this county for the past 15 years,” Trujillo said. “ I have been able to meet, work with and serve some of the most wonderful people. I have proven that I possess the skills, experience and desire to continue in this position. I would ask for the support of the citizens of Saguache County to entrust me with the responsibilities of this office once more.”

The office of the County Treasurer is responsible for the processing, collection, custody and distribution of county funds. All tax liens, bankruptcies and abatements are processed in this office.

Saguache County has averaged 99 percent or above each year on collections. The County Treasurer is also responsible for the investment of county funds as required by Colorado Statues.

“We are also responsible for maintaining the records and reconciliation for all payments and deposits whether they are submitted by paper, credit card, or direct deposit,” Trujillo said.

Recently, the Treasurer’s office as well as the Assessor’s office joined most of the other counties in the Valley in completing a new software conversion. By joining with all the other counties, they were able to secure Dept. of Local Affairs funding for the purchase of new computer equipment, which saved thousands of dollars.

Trujillo also is the Public Trustee. She is responsible for processing all foreclosures filed in the county and Releases of Deeds of Trust as well.

Trujillo has completed all requirements and classes offered through CSU in Fort Collins to become a Certified County Treasurer and continues to keep this certification through the extended studies program with Mesa State College and the Colorado County Treasurers’ Association. She continues her education in the Public Trustee area through conferences and online seminars.
