CENTER — The Center High School Lady Vikings basketball team held a multiple-school scrimmage in the Center Gym on Saturday, Nov. 27.

Local businesses, community members, and the Center Police Department donated food items that were sold at the concessions stand to raise money for the basketball program.

The stands were filled with fans from all the participating schools and many people from Center came to watch, buy food, and enjoy the competitive games.

The scrimmage was attended by the Monte Vista Pirates, the Sanford Indians, the Ignacio Bobcats, the Pagosa Pirates, the Hoenhe Farmers, and the Sangre de Christo Thunderbirds.

According to the Center Lady Vikings, “We have the best parents ever! We were able to raise some money for our program. Almost everything was donated today: plates, water, Gatorade, pizza, and hotdogs. Parents helped to run the clock, work concessions, and clean the bleachers. Yami our manager and her brother worked all day with our concessions. The Police Department donated hotdogs, Richie Barela donated a vat of chili, Trainer Ashley donated water and bowls, Coach Rodney Mondragon brought the chips and Mrs. Palma brought Gatorade. Most importantly, our team got better and took advantage of their opportunities.”
