Darlene Ann Morgan

Monte Vista resident Darlene Ann Morgan, 78, earned her heavenly wings on May 6, 2022, at the Rio Grande Hospital in Del Norte with her kids by her side. 

Darlene was born in Cleveland, Ohio on Oct. 17, 1943, the daughter of Clarence and Anna Hunter. She married Gene Morgan in Las Vegas, Nev., on March 21, 1995. She and her husband Gene moved to Arboles, Colo., for a time and she loved living in that area. They enjoyed 26 years together until his death in 2021. 

Darlene worked for the Monte Vista School District for many years. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Job’s Daughters International. She loved quilting and crafting and enjoyed making things for her loved ones. 

Darlene is survived by her children C.E. (Shari) Glunz, Monte Vista, Colo., and Dawn Martin of Alamosa, Colo.; her step-children Sue (Darrel) Plane and family, Gordon (Cindy) Morgan and family, Janet (Jim) Gonzales and family; her grandchildren J.R. (D’Anna) Martin, Jarrad Martin, and Angela DeSautell; her great-grandchild Maverick Martin; as well as her sister Karen Berger of Duck, N.C., and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. 

Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Anna, her husband Gene, her sister Gini Garner, her brother-in-law Richard Berger, and her son-in-law Harold Martin. 

Cremation was chosen and a Celebration of Life gathering will be held 10 a.m. Monday, May 16, 2022, at the Rogers Family Mortuary, 404 Morris St. in Monte Vista. A Memorial Luncheon will be held at Monte Vista Elks Lodge, 121 Washington St. in Monte Vista. Everyone is invited to attend. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rio Grande Hospital or the Monte Vista Community Ambulance Fund in Darlene’s name.
