CENTER – A disciplinary hearing for Center Town Trustee Bill McClure for using a racial slur toward a city employee was rescheduled to Feb. 4 after the charges filed against him were amended. The hearing was originally scheduled for Jan. 28. 

ALAMOSA — A 23-year-old man, later identified as Bobby Montoya of La Jara, allegedly entered the Big R in Alamosa on Thursday evening and stole two boxes of ammunition and a flashlight. He then brandished a gun when confronted by a store employee.  

RIO GRANDE COUNTY – The Rio Grande County Board of Commissions during its recent meeting released an official statement pertaining to the concerns about two key personnel that work for the county but live out of state.

ALAMOSA — A woman’s body was found with signs of bite marks and scratches Thursday evening in Costilla County, according to the Costilla County Sheriff’s Office. 

ALAMOSA — Hospitals in the San Luis Valley – specifically, San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center (SLVRMC) in Alamosa and Rio Grande Hospital (RG Hospital) in Del Norte – are reporting a prevalence in illnesses that are common this time of year and are encouraging people to take steps to prevent becoming sick. 

ALAMOSA — Henry Corral, 44, appeared in court this week in connection to his alleged involvement in the murder of two men – Aurelio Piña, 61, and his son Gabriel Piña, 37 - and attempted murder of a third – Manuel Flores, 43 - at the Sunset Inn in Alamosa during the early morning hours of June 23, 2024.  

ALAMOSA – A bi-partisan coalition of lawmakers along with former Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar held a press conference on the first floor of the state Capitol Friday morning, Jan. 24, where they expressed their strong support for a bill that empowers local government by strengthening laws governing fence construction in the San Luis Valley.

CREEDE – After receiving a grant through the Department of Local Affairs (DOLA), the Creede School District is working with the University of Denver Architecture Program to consider a workforce housing project on property west of the school.
