The Sierra Grande and Sierra Grande high school boys basketball teams recorded victories in the Class 1A District 6 Tournament semifinal round Friday at the Centauri High School gym to advance to today’s championship game. The Panthers defeated Moffat 48-43 while the Thunderbirds scored a 47-40 win over Centennial.

The Sangre de Cristo and Sierra Grande high school girls basketball teams won their Class 1A District 6 Tournament semifinals Friday at the Centauri High School gym. The Lady Thunderbirds defeated Centennial 58-16, while the Lady Panthers won by a 62-41 margin over Creede.

The Sanford and Monte Vista high school boys basketball teams both scored semifinal victories in the Class 2A District 1 Tournament as the Mustangs defeated Del Norte 57-30, and the Pirates held off Sargent 41-36 Thursday at the Centauri High School gymnasium.

The Monte Vista and Sanford high school girls basketball teams advanced to the Class 2A District 1 championship as the Lady Pirates defeated Del Norte 40-30, and the Lady Mustangs scored a 40-24 win over Sargent Thursday at the Centauri High School gymnasium.

For the second year in a row, the Alamosa High School girls basketball team opened the Class 4A State Tournament by hosting Severance. And for the second consecutive year, the Lady Silver Knights gave the Lady Mean Moose an early exit as Severance scored a 40-29 win Tuesday at the AHS gym.
