SARGENT SCHOOL – The Sargent High School football team played its final home game of the season as the Farmers hosted fourth-ranked Dove Creek at the Farmers’ field.
The visiting Bulldogs proved their ranking as they cruised to a 60-8 win.
Dove Creek had the ball first and it didn’t take it long top get into the end zone. Bulldog quarterback Josh Kibel attempted to score on a quarterback sneak, but he fumbled. Fortunately for the Bulldogs, Trevan Ivie recovered the ball and pushed his way into the end zone. Kibel threw to Liam Hassell on the two-point conversion and Dove Creek had an 8-0 lead.
The Bulldogs used a turnover to get their next points as Kibel recorded an interception and he returned it 45 yards for a touchdown. The two-point try was no good and the lead stood at 14-0.
After forcing Sargent to punt, the Bulldogs got another touchdown. This time Kibel threw a 7-yard scoring strike to Teagan Larimore, and Kibel also ran in the two-point play for a 22-0 advantage.
The Farmers got on the scoreboard on the first play of the second quarter as Kade Temple tossed a 14-yard touchdown to Lucas Garcia. Temple also threw to Jaycian Sierra for the two-point conversion and Dove Creek’s lead stood at 22-8.
The Bulldogs got another touchdown the next time they had the ball. Larimore ran 12 yards to the end zone, and Nicholas Aragon scored the two-point conversion to push their lead to 30-8.
After another interception, the Bulldogs scored another touchdown as Aragon scored on a 2-yard run. Kibel threw to Aragon for two points and the lead was pushed to 38-8.
Dove Creek got another pick-six from Kibel just before the half expired, this time on a 35-yard return. The run failed but Dove Creek had a 44-8 lead at the intermission.
The Farmers fumbled the ball away on their first possession of the second half and once again the Bulldogs scored. This time Aragon scored on a 2-yard run, and Aragon threw to Ivie for two points.
The rest of the game was played under a running clock, but Dove Creek managed one more touchdown. Larimore scored on a 12-yard run and he also scored the two-point conversion for a 60-8 advantage.
Sargent had only 85 total yards – 50 rushing and 35 passing. Garcia led the ground game with 43 yards on 21 carries.
Temple completed three of 13 passes for 35 yards. Sierra was his top target with two catches for 21 yards.
Dove Creek rolled up 307 yards of total offense with 218 coming in the running game. KIbel led the attack with 84 yards on eight carriers, followed by Larimore with 71 yards on 14 carries, and Aragon had 57 on seven carries.
Kibel completed four out of nine passes for 89 yards. Ivie had two receptions for 49 yards and Larimore had two catches for 40 yards.
Sargent (3-5, 1-3) will close out the season next Friday as it will go over Wolf Creek Pass to face second-ranked Mancos.
