ALAMOSA COUNTY — On the morning of Sept. 27, an adult male fell and hit his head on a rock at the end of the trail to Zapata Falls. Alamosa County Sheriff's Office confirmed the hiker died at the scene.
The cause of death is pending an autopsy report. Numerous agencies, including the Alamosa County Sheriff's Office, National Park Service, Alamosa EMS, and Mosca Hooper Volunteer Fire Department, responded.
The half-mile trail begins at about 9,000 feet and gains 200 feet in elevation.
