Joseph Stevens Murrelle

DEL NORTE — Our loving son and father, Joseph Stevens Murrelle, 31, born March 23, 1992, in Vail, Colo., passed away on Dec. 10, 2023, at his childhood home in Del Norte, Colo.

Joseph is survived by his parents Brett Stevens Murrelle and Connie Jean Murrelle of Del Norte, Colo.; his daughter Rayleigh Quinn Murrelle and two stepchildren Ryker Evan and Rylynn Emory Black of Del Norte, Colo.; sister Brittany (Jesse), niece Abagale and nephew Emmitt Gallegos of Appleton, Wis.; grandmothers Betsy Murrelle of Banner Elk, N.C., and Linda Killinen of Fountain Hills, Ariz. Survivors also include many other aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Joe graduated from Del Norte High School in 2011. He attended Mesa University and Adams State University where he earned his Associate of Arts. Joe loved the outdoors, he enjoyed skiing, snowboarding, hiking, mountain biking and fly fishing. The outdoors gave him so much pleasure as he could connect with nature and feel that freedom that nature yields. Joe had a passion for forging and was an avid builder of knives. Joseph loved his family and friends deeply.

Joe worked at the Wolf Creek Ski Area teaching the Wolf Pup kids how to ski. The Wolf Pups brought so much joy and a sense of accomplishment to him. Joe was passionate about teaching his children of life on the ranch while helping tend to the chores that helped ease his mom and dad's load. Joe was such a hard and reliable worker, always doing what needed to be done.

The void of his abrupt departure leaves family and friends with aching hearts. All grateful for the time shared on his journey. Joe always had silly “dad jokes” and his laughter was contagious to everyone around him, you couldn’t help but join in on the giggles. His goofy personality will surely be missed!
