On Monday, July 24, 2023 at 3:25 a.m., Loraine Kay (Rockey) (Johnson) Campbell, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away at the age of 80 in Newberg, Ore.

She was born in Monte Vista, Colo., in January 1943 and grew up with her two brothers on the family potato farm (Rockey Farms) in Center, Colo., in the San Luis Valley. She graduated high school from Center Consolidated Schools (Center, Colo.) and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Psychology at Adams State College in Alamosa, Colo. She then married Michael J. Johnson in 1964 and moved to Florence, Ore., in 1968, where they raised their two children, Edward Johnson and Lodell (Johnson) Halvorson.

She worked as a bookkeeper for their excavation and sanitation businesses (Siuslaw Sanitary Service) in Florence. After a divorce and sale of the businesses, she returned to Colorado in 1988 where she co-owned and ran a trucking company (Rocky Mountain Transportation) in Canon City, Colo. In 2003, Loraine moved back to Oregon to be near her children and grandchildren.

Loraine was a lifetime member of the Order of Eastern Star, a Masonic fraternal organization that her parents Floyd and Vera Rockey were also involved in. She was initiated in 1961 into the Golden Grain Chapter No. 80 in Colorado and belonged to the following Oregon chapters: Newberg No. 55, Home Star No. 187, Laurel No. 113, Vesta No. 73, Tigard Orenomah No. 174, and Gervais No. 118. She served as Worthy Matron for several terms. She was also involved with White Shrine, Daughters of the Nile, Daughters of the American Revolution, and Soroptimist clubs.

Throughout her life she enjoyed cooking, gardening, playing the piano and organ for various events, and spent numerous hours knitting, crocheting, working on assorted craft projects, or reading from her cherished collection of Reader’s Digest Condensed Books. She was rarely without knitting needles in her hands and utilizing her large assortment of yarn and craft projects.

She is survived by her former spouse Michael J. Johnson, their children Edward (Julie) Johnson and Lodell (Allan) Halvorson, her grandchildren, Tyler Johnson, Emerald (Cody) Lowry, Tiffanie (Shane) Hartman, Kyle (Emily) Halvorson, Tanner Johnson, Hailey (Jacob) Sutton, Tess Johnson, Carter Halvorson, and her great-granddaughters Ripley Hartman, and Eliana Halvorson (due Sept. 30, 2023). Loraine is also survived by her beloved Chihuahua King Arthur, her cousins, nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, R. Floyd and Vera, and her brothers, Warren and Verlin Rockey.

A memorial service will be held at Attrell’s Funeral Chapel in Newberg, Ore., on Friday, Sept. 1, at 1 p.m.

A graveside service and interment of ashes will be held at a later date at the Monte Vista Cemetery in Monte Vista, Colo., where her cremains will be buried between her parents, as was her wish.
