A man of stubborn wit, Richard B. Quintana, 67, gave his last testament of defiance against the holiday spirit as he passed on Dec. 24, 2023.

Born to Jose R. Quintana (Deceased Sept. 1995) and Maria “Ruth” (Gonzalez) Quintana on Feb. 13, 1956, in Capulin, Colo. Accompanied through life and survived by his younger siblings Nora (Bobby) Maez, Emily (Eddie - deceased) Maestas, and Elvira “Sandra” (Ray) Valdez. Further proceeded into death by his mother-in-law Virgina S. Lopez, his sister-in-law Bernadette B. Lopez, and his aunt Carol R. Quintana.

Richard attended Centauri High School (Class of 1977) where he met his high school sweetheart Theresa E. Lopez. They would go on to marry and share the Quintana name on May 3, 1978, and fill their humble home with two (questionably) wonderful children — Richard R. (Shasta) Quintana and Lisa V. Quintana (Alan) Scheibe.

While a hardworking man, through illness and all, dedicating 45(ish) years to the Valley Courier, in various roles, his true blessings were his eight grandchildren — Naomi (Chris) Aldridge, Miranda (Francisco) Quintana, Aspen Hunter, Sierra Scheibe, Tiffany Quintana, Victoria Scheibe, Makan Quintana, Alyssa Scheibe — and his two great-grandchildren — Ezequiel Moreno and Ryker Scheibe. To whom he would always say, “Grandpa doesn't spoil you; he LOVES you.” They may have only been ever outshined by his pets, who were along for the ride in life and now in death (His “Lucky” Buddy, who passed in July, is no longer without his best friend).

As a man of various interests, and plentiful friends (mostly named Steve, but special gratitude to his best friend David Martinez AKA “primo”) he took time to show them the world. Thus, in many lives, never lived alone, Richard became a DIY mechanic, music contour (biasedly favored toward Elvis), an avid car collector (toys and real. If it had wheels, it most likely came home. One time there was even a boat), movie critic (no program was safe, and yet he loved his portable tv), a (sporadic) road trip enthusiast who rarely had enough gas, and so much more. While a Grinch, his heart was never three sizes too small.

Services began with a Rosary on Friday, Dec. 29, 2023, at 7 p.m. and a Funeral to follow on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2023, at 11 a.m. All services will be held at St. Joseph’s Church in Capulin, Colo. The burial will take place at Gomez cemetery.
