Oma Jean Hansen

Oma Jean Hansen, 94, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. Jean was born in Opal, Ark., to Marvin Davis and Dovie (Bates) Davis. The second of four children.

She lived in Arkansas until the family moved to Santa Fe, N.M., for work. She worked for the phone company and was a star player for the company’s women’s basketball team.

She met the love of her life, Gerald Hansen. They were married on May 14, 1950, and had two children, Ron and Kathy. In 1957, they moved to Dolores, Colo., where she was mother, homemaker and bookkeeper for the family business.

In 1968, the family moved to Saguache, Colo. After Gerald’s passing in 2001 she moved to Canon City, Colo., until her passing.

Jean loved music, playing guitar, piano and loved to sing. Along with music she also loved to dance, especially square dancing. She also loved the outdoors with fishing, camping, water skiing and snowmobiling. She also tried her hand at tennis. She was always smiling and had a verse from a song for every occasion.

After the nest emptied, she was clerk of court for a time and was sought-after speaker for Christian Women’s Club events. She also enjoyed the Red Hat Club. Jean was always active in church and was strong in her faith. Jean was loved by all who knew her and will be missed.

Jean was preceded in death by brother Marva Lee who died at birth, her parents Marvin and Dovie Davis, husband Gerald Hansen, brother Jimmy Davis, and sister Billie Hansen.

She is survived by son Ron (Wyoma) Hansen, Saguache, Colo., daughter Kathy (Paul) Clarke, Canon City, Colo., five grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and special friend Jim Jones.

Services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2024, at 10 a.m. with lunch to follow Canon Community Baptist Church, 1111 Monroe Ave., Canon City, CO 81212. Burial to be held Friday, Feb. 9, 2024, at 11 a.m., Memorial Gardens of Santa Fe, Santa Fe, N.M.
