For generations, La Jara residents have gathered each summer to celebrate the town's history, and enjoy a day dedicated to hometown pride. On Saturday, July 26, that tradition continues as La Jara Glory Days returns with a full schedule of family activities, live music, a community breakfast, parade, car show and opportunities for neighbors and visitors alike to reconnect.

For some, it was their first experience with horses. For one young boy, it meant overcoming fear and finding the confidence to climb into the saddle for the very first time.

LA JARA — Packed to near-capacity, the Centauri High School gymnasium erupted in cheers on Saturday morning, May 23, as 85 graduating seniors walked across the stage to receive their diplomas. 

Residents of the San Luis Valley are invited to grab their sombreros and maracas for the 2026 Cinco de Mayo festival, returning to Monte Vista on Saturday, May 2. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and features a classic car show, food trucks, local vendors, and live music from Colorado and New Mexico artists.

About 100 people lined up with their children on the big lawn at the Center Consolidated School District campus for a giant Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 4, hosted by many wonderful organizations. This was one of many Easter egg hunts held in the Valley. 

Local radio station KRZA will be hosting its Spring Fund Drive on April 1-10 with hopes of raising more money and awareness to keep the historical station on the air.  

Saint Patrick’s Day is here, and the first-grade classrooms at Center Consolidated School District, were all asked the same question, “How do you catch a Leprechaun.”  On Thursday, March 12, Center Consolidated School District had a mini open house for the first graders, from 2 to 3 p.m., so that students could show off their Leprechaun Traps, and how they planned to catch a Leprechaun for Saint Patrick’s Day.  

RIO GRANDE COUNTY – For the past two meetings, Rio Grande County Commissioners have had discussions considering changing the Rio Grande County Clerk office hours back to Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
