DEL NORTE – The Alamosa High School girls soccer team had a rough start to the Intermountain League season on Friday as it lost to Montezuma-Cortez, 5-0, at the Del Norte High School field.
“We were missing some players and we were diving in,” said Alamosa coach Kelly Wubben. “We were missing the ball. So it was not a good game. We’re going to have the memory of a goldfish and forget this one happened.”
Mia Glazner gave the Panthers the lead with an unassisted goal in the 25th minute. Glazner scored another unassisted goal in the 37th minute to give Cortez a 2-0 lead at halftime.
Glazner completed the hat trick just two minutes into the second half with another unassisted goal. Glazner scored her fourth consecutive goal in the 49th minute with Merolidth Avila getting credited with the assist.
Kyndall Schmitt wrapped up the scoring in the 60th minute with an unassisted goal.
The Pamthers outshot the Mean Moose by a 17-5 margin. Alamosa freshman goalkeeper, Kylie Cantu, recorded 12 saves.
Alamosa (3-2, 0-1) will travel to Pagosa Springs on Thursday with the varsity game to begin at 4 p.m. Its next home game will be Saturday against Bayfield at Center beginning at noon.
“We haven’t seen them yet this season, I’m hoping it should be a good game,” coach Wubben said.
