ALAMOSA – The seventh-ranked Alamosa High School girls soccer team looked to have the game in the bag with a late goal against Salida Monday at the AHS stadium. However, the Lady Spartans answered with a goal and the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

“That was a hard one to swallow,” said Alamosa coach Kelly Wubben. “We had them, but we’ll get the next game.”

The first half was scoreless with both teams having opportunities. Salida was able to put a shot into the net, but it was nullified by an offsides penalty.

After having more missed scoring opportunities by both teams, the Lady Mean Moose got on the board in the 77th minute as Araceli Molina put the ball over Trinity Bertolino’s reach.

Salida pulled even with 1:30 left in the gamer. Delia Dimino accounted for the goal with Reagan Osness being credited with the assist.

The Lady Mean Moose was able to push the ball into Lady Spartan territory. However, they were unable to get a shot on goal in the final minute.

Alamosa put 12 shots on goal compared to seven for Salida. Mean Moose goalkeeper Emily Tibbits had six saves.

Alamosa also had four corner kicks and Salida had three.

What’s next

Alamosa (7-0-2, 3-0-1) hosted Del Norte on Tuesday. It will conclude Intermountain League play later this week with a game at Pagosa Springs on Thursday at 4 p.m., and by hosting Bayfield Saturday at 11 a.m.

Schedule changes

Last Saturday’s home game against Pueblo Centennial was postponed because of the weather. It has been rescheduled for May 2 at 11 a.m.

The scheduled contest at Lake County on May 1 has been canceled and will not be rescheduled.
