ALAMOSA – The Southern Plains League released its Class 1A and 2A track and field All-Conference teams in late May.
In Class 2A boys, Center’s Andree Meraz was named the Track Athlete of the Year and was also All-League in the 100-meter dash and the discus. Two of his Viking teammates were also recognized as Caden Ruggles was All-League in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles and the long jump, and Anjel Palma was All-League in the triple jump.
Del Norte had four All-League performers. Caleb Cowett was All-League in the 400-meter dash and the 800-meter run, Mads Kreutzer was honored in the 1,600 meters, Wyatt VanZalinge was recognized in the 110-meter high hurdles and Damon Ledford-Vigil was All-League in the pole vault.
The Tigers also earned All-League honors in the 4x400- and 4x800-meter relays.
Sanford had two All-League individuals. Caden Cary was recognized in the 200 meters, and Bryce Keck in the shot put.
The Mustangs also received All-League recognition in the 4x100 and 4x200 relays.
For the Class 2A girls, Sanford’s Erica Miller was the Track Athlete of the Year after earning All-League honors in the 100, 200 and 400.
The Lady Mustangs were also All-League in the 4x100 and 4x200 relays.
Del Norte had two individuals honored with both being All-League in three events. Frannie Edelen was All-League on the 800, 1,600 and 3,200, while Baylie Laymon earned All-League honors in the 100 hurdles, the high jump and the pole vault.
The Lady Tigers were also All-League in the 4x400.
Center had two All-League selections. Presley Miller earned honors in the shot put and discus, and Dulce Palma was recognized in the long jump.
Del Norte’s Tamara Creel was the Coach of the Year.
In Class 1A boys, Sangre de Cristo’s Brody Artaechevarria was the Track Athlete of the Year. He earned All-League in the 400, 800 and the triple jump.
Another Thunderbird, Hayden Cleve, was All-League in the pole vault.
Sangre de Cristo was also All-League in the 4x200 and the 4x400.
Creede had one All-League athlete in Charlie Heinrich, who was recognized in the 110 and 300 hurdles.
Sierra Grande also had one All-League selection in Nehemiah Wilson in the long jump.
The Panthers were also All-League in the 4x100.
For the Class 1A girls, Moffat’s Kendra Pollard was All-League in the 100 and 400.
Creede had two selections in Jasmine Laing in the high jump and Ava Mankowski in the shot put.
Sangre de Cristo had one honoree in Taylor Freel in the discus.
Sierra Grande had one recognized athlete in Eneria Quintana in the long jump. The Lady Panthers also earned All-League in the 4x100.
Lake City’s Mackenzie Phillimore was the Class 1A Girls Track Athlete of the Year.
Sangre de Cristo’s Heather Tillman was the Class 1A Coach of the Year.
