BACA GRANDE — The nonprofit group Neighbors Helping Neighbors (NHN) and the Baca Grande Library, with the support of numerous community volunteers, each bringing unique skills, collaborated to provide their expertise to the public on Aug. 9 at a Repair Fair held at the library.

Inside the library, computer problems were troubleshooted, while clothing was hemmed. Outside, bicycles, drums, jewelry, leather goods, and other items received a bit of TLC.

The volunteers, each with their unique and impressive skills, included Bethany Remington, a talented seamstress; Tommy Lyle, a skilled woodworker; Mary Anne Sheeran, an expert in general repurposing and upcycling; Mathew Clark, a master in drum repair and tuning; and Vanessa Gracia, a specialist in upcycling.

Mary Lowers with NHN said the relationship between the group and the library is "Symbiotic, NHN is providing the food, and we have all these people helping the community with repairs."

Eden Elderberry with the Baca Library proudly declared the event a resounding success: "We are calling this the first Repair Fair because it was such a triumph, and we're already planning for many more."

Neighbors Helping Neighbors is a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing the community together to support the well-being of households in crisis, aiming to stabilize their situation.

A crisis is a one-time event, such as an accident or illness, that impacts the financial stability of the family, and the group can provide support.

According to the nonprofit's website, "We respond to the needs and problems of people living in crisis situations by directly paying bills that will restore stability, giving them a chance to get on their feet without creating further instability."
