ALAMOSA – Here is a recap of boys golf tournament in which San Luis Valley schools participated this week.
Gunnison Invitational
Alamosa and Monte Vista sent their top golfers to the Gunnison Invitational which took place Tuesday at the Dos Rios Golf Course.
The Pirates finished in second place with 246 – just nine strokes behind tournament champion Grand Junction Central with 237. Leading Monte Vista was Connor Mellott who was the individual medalist with a one-under-par 70. Aiden Ford tied for 20th with an 86, Jakoby Ross tied for 32nd with a 90, and Jason Gonzales tied for 40th with a 92.
The Mean Moose were third with 248. Leading the way was Eliott MacKey who tied for fifth with an 81. Serjio Najera tied for 10th with an 83, Zavier Medina tied for 14th with an 84, and Gibson Gillespie tied for 42nd with a 93.

Grand Junction Central 237, Monte Vista 246, Alamosa 248, Montrose 248, Vail Mountain 250, Palisade 251, Telluride 262, Gunnison 270, Lake County 271, Palisade 2 273, Aspen 278, Cedaredge 281, Rangely 299, Gunnison 3 299, Gunnison 2 304.
Pagosa Springs Invitational
Both Alamosa and Monte Vista also sent golfers to compete at the Pagosa Springs Invitational Tuesday at the Pagosa Springs Golf Course. Del Norte also competed at that tournament.
The Mean Moose finished in fifth place with a score of 265. They were led by Brady Van Iwaarden who placed 10th with an 85. Erik Garcia tied for 11th with an 86, Jace Sanchez was 22nd with a 94, Kyan Mason was 24th with a 97, and Foster Boyd tied for 27th with a 102.
Three more Alamosa golfers competed as extras and did not figure in the team scoring. Mason Weyers tied for 18th with a 90, Hoyt Johnson was 30th with a 106, and Camdyn Montoya tied for 31st with a 109.
The Pirates placed sixth with 310. Leading the way was Logan Futrell who tied for 14th with an 87, followed by Zaiden Villagomez who was 14th with a 111, Uriah Fielder who tied for 35th with a 112, and Rylen Ross who was 37th with a 113.
The Tigers took seventh place with 390. They were led by Damon Ledford-Vigil who was 38th with a 124, Julian Vigil who was 39th with a 126, and Graesyn Coulson who was 40th with a 140.
Durango won the tournament with 212, followed by Pagosa Springs with 247.
Pagosa Springs’ Johnathon Smith was the medalist with an even par 71.
