ALAMOSA —On May 7, the Kelloff for Congress campaign began their “By The People” tour with their first event held in Grand Junction. “This Tour is not your typical political event,” Kelloff says. “It’s a series of workshops across the district where neighbors come together, build community and have a role and voice in writing the plan that we want for our future.”
Kelloff goes on to write, “We’re the people who pay the bills, build daring things for Colorado, show up for our neighbors, and keep our communities running. And nobody knows what our communities and our families need better than us. But nobody in Congress ever bothers to ask. When lobbyists, corporate donors, and consultants set the menu, we’re not just excluded — we’re on that menu.”
That, he goes on to say, is the motivation for “traveling across Colorado’s Third District to hear directly from the people.”
As the format is described, Kelloff will moderate a discussion by asking a few simple questions: What do people love about where they live? What have they lost under Jeff Hurd and Donald Trump? What needs to be restored? What do people want Congress to do for us when we take back the House and Senate in November?
Since launching, the Kelloff campaign states that have held eight events in total and have another twelve scheduled or in the works.
“I’m happy and heartened to say that we have received overwhelming feedback and support. This is how we win in November and defeat Jeff Hurd: by showing up, engaging with people, listening and learning from them, and developing our plan with them for when I get to Congress. It’s exciting and people are excited!”
If community members are not able to join, they’re encouraged to visit the Kelloff website at https://alexkelloff.com/by-the-people-tour or Facebook page (@alexkelloffco) and fill out a survey to help build the plan.
After completing our By The People Tour in mid-June, Kelloff and staff will compile the results and produce the “By The People Plan”.
“We are looking forward to continuing this hard work,” he writes, “listening to and learning from you, and producing the plan over these next weeks.”
