Crested Butte wins boys race, Gunnison the girls

MONTE VISTA – The annual Eric Wolff cross country invitational took place Friday. The races began just behind Adrian Gutierrez Memorial Field, across the golf course and finishing at Harvey Sullivan Field.

Crested Butte won the boys race and Gunnison won the girls. A pair of Gunnison runners were the medalists as Jackson Dalleck won the boys meet in 16:23.59,and Madelyn Stice won the girls in 18:37.37.

Centauri

Centauri was second in both races, scoring 42 points in the boys meet, and 26 in the girls.

Leading the Falcon boys was Carson Bagwell who was second overall in 16:59.3. Also scoring were Tyrel Hostetter who was ninth in 17:40.4, Lincoln Bagwell who was 11th in 17:54.7, Troy Sowards who was 26th in 19:04.3, Dice Koontz who was 27th in 19:04.7, Rhett Taylor who was 44th in 20:20.5, and Gavin Graber who was 48th in 20:32.9.

Also running for the Falcons were Liam Sowards who was 66th in 22:50.3, and Hunter Horton who was 71st in 24:05.0.

The Lady Falcons were led by Mckenzie Torres who was fourth in 20:36.9, Kourtney Heikes who was sixth in 21:08.7, Bailey Graber who was eighth in 21:37.7, Jocelyn Jarvies who was 12th in 22:08.8, Ella Guymon who was 22nd in 22:48.8, Hannah Guymon who was 26th in 23:14.5, and Brooklyn Shawcroft who was 30th in 23:35.0.

Other Lady Falcon runners included Faith Medellin who was 31st in 23:40.1, Lyndie Sowards who was 33rd in 24:06.9, Alyvia Norton who was 39th in 24:25.5, Harper Russell who was 42nd in 24:38.5, Beijah Sowards who was 46th in 25:22.7, Lindsey Robins who was 47th in 25:24.5, Jeana Dunn who was 51st in 26:01.2, Rylie Sowards who was 55th in 26:39.7, Sara Kelly who was 57th in 26:40.5, and Pepper Larson who was 61st in 28:01.9.

Alamosa

Alamosa ran its junior varsity runners in the meet. Only two Mean Moose boys runners competed as Jack Daniel Lopez was 60th in 21:19.8, and Matthew Hollingsworth was 68th in 23:20.2.

The Lady Mean Moose were sixth with 129 points. Competing for Alamosa were Angelina Molina who was 25th in 23:14.3, Reese Canaan who was 40th in 24:25.9, Camryn Zook who was 58th in 27:15.0, Tecoa Archuleta who was 59th in 27:34.1, and Amiah Diaz who was 67th in 30:44.9.

Antonito

The Antonito boys placed ninth with 187 points. Running for the Trojans were Dean Garcia who was 42nd in 20:12.0, Everett Holloway who was 63rd in 22:04.8, Nick Mondragon who was 76th in 25:20.4, and Steven Velasquez who was 81st in 28:25.3.

The Antonito girls were seventh with 161 points. Running for the Lady Trojans were Alyssa Abeyta who was 54th in 26:34.9, Sophia Rendon who was 63rd in 29:02.1, Neveah Cuellar, 66th, 30:37.8, Anali Garcia who was 69th in 31:06.3, and Evolet Garcia who was 72nd in 33:48.5.

Center

Center had three runners in the boys race. Andree Meraz was 28th in 19:14.4, Kevin Tomas-Lopez was 67th in 23:01.7, and Westlea Tipsword was 70th in 23:56.7.

For the Lady Vikings, Anahlicia Villagomes was 62nd in 28:16.4, and Lavine Casas Hernandez was 68th in 31:03.1.

Centennial

Centennail was eighth in the boys race with 182 points. Leading the Rams were Zachariah Jacquez who was 45th in 20:20.9, Jose Molina who was 56th in 21:00.6, Tyree Casias who was 74th in 24:35.9, Miguel Salcido who was 78th in 26:43.6, Amado Montoya who was 80th in 27:04.7, Aaron Salcido who was 83rd in 29:24.3, and Dilano Bosch who was 84th in 29:52.4.

Del Norte

Del Norte was third in the boys competition with 56 points. The Tigers were led by Mads Kreutzer who was eighth in 17:40.3, Jax Lester who was 18th in 18:29.2, Cruz Matta who was 19th in 18:38.3, Caleb Cowett who was 21st in 18:55.1, Josiah Yocom who was 22nd in 18:56.2, Corbin Horrocks who was 40th in 19:51.4, Landon Crowder who was 58th in 21:11.2, and Tomas Benavides who was 61st in 21:26.5.

For the Lady Tigers, Frannie Edelen was third overall in 20:32.8. Madeline Mitchell was 16th in 22:32.1, and Ella Cowett was 48th in 25:53.1.

Monte Vista

Monte Vista was 10th in the boys meet with 197 points. The Pirates were led by Jamian Martinez who was 47th in 20:30.8, Nehemiah Espinoza who was 65th in 22:46.3, Kyler Lake who was 79th in 26:55.0, and Robert Horner who was 82nd in 28:25.3.

The Lady Pirates finished eighth with 163 points. They were led by Elizabeth Bradshaw who was 56th in 26:39.8, Elena Baumgardner who was 60th in 27:53.1, Veronica Kincannon who was 65th in 30:26.7, and Kaliah Stucky who was 73rd in 36:26.8.

Sierra Grande

Sierra Grande ran three competitors in the boys race. Leading the Panthers were Garrick Pettigrew who was 37th in 19:48.4, Daniel Rodriguez who was 69th in 23:28.6, and Kayo DeLeon who was 77th in 26:29.7.

Regionals are next

The next competition for the local teams will be their respective regional meets.

Alamosa and Centauri will be at the Class 3A Region 2 Meet at North Monument Valley Park in Colorado Springs on Thursday.

Antonito, Centennial, Center, Del Norte, Monte Vista and Sierra Grande will compete at the Class 2A Region 4 Meet at the Rio Grande.Golf Course in South Fork on Friday.
