SAGUACHE – With the coming of fall, also comes all the fun that fall has to offer, including Saguache’s annual Fall Festival on Sept. 20.
President of the Saguache County Chamber of Commerce, Carla Quintana is this year’s Fall Festival organizer, and she is excited about it.
“The Saguache Fall Festival has been going on for many years,” Quintana said. “This year, the festival will take place September 20, from 10 a.m. to 3p.m. I am the new organizer this year. I am excited about the upcoming festival. I think it is going to go well. The festival will take place at Otto Mears Park, unless the weather is bad, we may move it into the community building, this time of year you just never know, it’s been cloudy here and cool. We are hoping that everyone from everywhere comes out. Everyone from Del Norte, Monte Vista, Creede, all over the Valley, everyone is invited to attend.”
Quintana said that as the organizer this year that she really wants to stress that all vendors are welcome to come for free this year. Since the Festival also holds a silent auction, all she is asking of each vendor is for a donation of whatever they make for the silent auction. As an example, she stated that with food vendors, she is just asking for a meal for two from the vendors, and for craft vendors, they will be asked for a small donation to contribute to the silent auction.
“The economy is hard on everyone right now, I figure if I make this free, whatever people come and make they can have, and hopefully it will help them,” she said.
Quintana said that although the celebration will be held in the park weather permitting that the silent auction will be held in the community building. Quintana said that right now they do have some food vendors already lined up including a vendor that will be bringing kettle corn, a vendor with tacos, and other food vendors. She is hoping that word of mouth will get around about the vendors being able to register for free, and vendors from all over the valley will register to be at the Saguache Fall Festival.
“The more people that come out, the better the festival will be. I want to make it a comfortable day, that everyone can enjoy. I also want to make it profitable for everybody, and I am hoping everyone really enjoys themselves,” she said.
Quintana wants the Fall Festival to be a fun-filled day for all who attend. Another aspect of the festival that she is excited about is the Saguache Sagebrush Quilters will be showing off some of their finest quilts.
“Those quilting ladies do such a good job. They always sell so many beautiful things too. This is my first year running the show, and I really enjoy the quilters,” she said.
