DEL NORTE – The Del Norte High School girls soccer team got another impressive win on Thursday as it defeated Trinidad, 5-1, at Tiger Field.
“It was a super impressive win and I’m proud of all these girls,” said Del Norte coach Elizabeth Bailey. “They showed up and worked hard. I’m pretty happy.”
The game was scoreless for the first 30 minutes before Oralie Archuleta put the Lady Tigers on the board in the 31st minute. Emily Gurrola made the score 2-0 with a goal just as the first half expired.
The rest of Del Norte’s goals were scored by Emma Parra with a natural hat trick. She scored her first goal just 19 seconds into the second half.
Her other two goals were in the 66th and 67th minutes.
Trinidad avoided the shutout in the 69th minute with a goal by Jadyn Barron.
The Lady Tigers outshot the Lady Miners 22-12. Del Norte also had six corner kicks compared to only four by Trinidad.
Lady Tiger goalkeeper Sophia Banderas had 11 saves.
Del Norte (2-1) will travel to Ridgway today. The opening kickoff is at noon.
“We’re still going to bring our ‘A’ game, do our best and see what we can do to change it up a little bit,” Bailey said.
