ALAMOSA – An Alamosa High School senior student athlete has decided where she will continue her academic and athletic careers as Aubrey Rothermich signed a national letter of intent to play volleyball at Adams State University.

Rothermich signed her letter of Wednesday.

“It’s close to home and they have a good program,” Rothermich said. “It’s not stressful to be away from everybody.”

“I’m really excited for her,” said Alamosa coach Annie Mortensen. “I think Garcia Ramser is great man and Adams State has a great recruit.”

Rothermich was a three-year starter for the Mean Moose, and she led the team in hitting and blocking the past two seasons. She averages 4.2 kills per set and a .494 hitting average. She also has 62 total blocks so far this season.

“I tried pretty hard and my team works hard for me,” Rothermich said.

“Aubrey had a great career here,” Mortensen. “We’re excited to have her every year and excited to see how she does as a college athlete,”

Alamosa entered Friday’s Class 3A Region 1 Tournament with a 22-1 overall record and it went 8-0 in the Intermountain League. The Mean Moose had lost only five sets all season.

They are also the top-seeded team in Class 3A entering Friday’s action.

“It feels pretty good considering it’s my senior year and I hope to bring home a state title,” Rothermich said.

“I would like to keep the No. 1 seed in the bracket for the state tournament,” Mortensen said. “We’re higher than we’ve ever have and we’d like to stay consistent. We’re going to try to win state.”

After the volleyball season ends and before she goes to ASU, Rothermich will play one more season on the Alamosa girls basketball team.

“I’m pretty excited for that too,” Rothermich said. “I think we can make it to state in basketball too.”

Rothermich hopes that winning a state championship will be the biggest memory from Alamosa to ASU.

“Hopefully winning state will be nice,” Rothermich said. “Having good leadership, good teammates, a great program and a great career.”
