Sharon Edmiston Seago (born April 24, 1942, Perrytown, Texas) departed this earth in the early hours of Friday, Jan. 24, 2025, in Colorado Springs.
Sharon grew up in Floydada, Texas, the middle child of three siblings. She graduated from the Tarrant County Junior College with an associate's degree in Drafting and Design Technology in 1973 and worked as a mass properties engineer at Lockheed-Martin (formerly General Dynamics) beginning in 1974. She truly became a Texas Ex in 2001 when she and Bob left the Texas plains for the snowy peaks and wildflower-speckled valley of Creede, Colo., following retirement.
Words that clamored about her room as she shared her final moments with family were “brilliant,” “stubborn,” “whip smart,” and “doting.” A voracious learner, Sharon’s capacity to experience all that life had to offer was boundless. Described by all who knew her as an avid reader, she never saw a string of words — be it a mystery novel, magazine, or cereal box — that she didn’t stop to devour.
She traveled all over the world, seeing 39 countries in just under 40 years of marriage to Bob, and traveling to 28 destinations for annual “Sistor Trips” with her sister Dorothy and sisters-in-law Linda, Catharyn, and Carolyn. She spent a great deal of time hiking and exploring the mountains with her loved ones.
Sharon was well-known for her affinity for music, theater, and the arts. Not only was she a talented bassoonist, percussionist, pianist, organist, and weaver, she was also a supporter of local theatres and even served as board member and president of the Creede Arts Council.
She was a lifetime collector of stories, experiences, and knowledge, not to mention the amalgam of eclectic knick-knacks, trinkets, and kaleidoscopes accumulated from her travels and from artisans in the town of Creede.
Sharon’s memory as a curious, talented, loving, determined, intelligent, and all-around tough west Texas woman lives on with her friends and family.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Sharon is survived and remembered by her husband Bob Seago; sister Dorothy Allen; daughter Aimee Schmucker and grandchildren Meray, Clayton, Hayden, and Haley; son Jay McMeans (wife Vonna) and grandchildren Creede and Ellee; son Stuart McMeans; step-daughter Melissa Seago; step-son Kelley Seago (wife Tracey) and step-grandchildren Tyler and Rachel.
She was preceded in death by her parents Kearney and Margaret Edmiston, and brother Kearney Edmiston.
A memorial service will be held in early summer in Creede, Colo.
