AHS softball loses in quarterfinals

ALAMOSA – The Alamosa High School softball team won one game and lost one at the Class 3A State Tournament Friday at the Alamosa Sports Complex.

The 13th-seeded Mean Moose opened the tournament by defeating fourth-seeded Forge Christian, 9-8. They began the game by scoring eight runs in the top of the first. The Fury scored once in its half of the first, but Alamosa scored a run in in the fourth.

Forge Christian scored two runs in the fifth and five in the sixth, but the Mean Moose held off the Fury comeback effort.

Jazlin Garcia was the winning pitcher as she allowed eight runs and 12 hits while striking out four and walking two.

The Mean Moose scattered six hits.

Alamosa then played fifth-seeded Wellington in the quarterfinals and lost 14-4. The Eagles scored one run in the first, three in the second and two in the third. The Mean Moose scored all of their runs in the top of the fifth, however, Wellington scored eight in its half of the inning to end the game on the 10-run rule.

Alamosa had only four hits.

Alamosa finished the season with 16 wins and 11 losses.

Molina to compete in all-star game

ALAMOSA – Alamosa High School’s Araceli Molina will be playing in the Colorado Coaches of Girls Sports All-State softball game on Sunday.

The game will take place Sunday at the Long Lake Complex in Arvada.

Molina will be playing on the Red team. AHS coach Dominic Lomeli will also be on the Red team’s staff.

Alamosa gymnastics to compete in Mountain Vista region

ALAMOSA – The Alamosa gymnastics team will be in Westminster on Friday to compete in the Mountain Vista regional.

The Mean Moose will be on the floor exercise in the first rotation, the vault in the second rotation, the balance beam in the third rotation, and the uneven bars in the final rotation.

Warm-ups are from 3:05-3:13 p.m. and competition begins at 3:25 p.m.
