DENVER — Top-seeded Alamosa High School girls volleyball advanced to the semifinals of the 3A state tournament with a hard-fought 3-1 win over the No. 12 seed, The Village-Colorado Springs, on Friday.
The Mean Moose (26-1) grabbed the first set 25-22, dropped the second, 25-23, won the third 25-23, and advanced by winning the fourth in dominating fashion, 25-11. The Mountaineers (20-8) were the defending 3A state champions.
Third-seeded Eaton advanced to the 3A semis in the lower half of the bracket by downing No. 7 The Classical Academy, 3-1.
Alamosa's lone loss this season was to Eaton (23-4), 3-1, back on Aug. 30. The Mean Moose have won 23 straight and play at noon Saturday for a spot in the final at 6 p.m. that same day.
Eighth-seeded Sargent advanced to the third round of the 1A elimination bracket with a 3-1 win over seventh-seeded Hi-Plains followed by a 3-0 win over fifth-seeded Granada on Friday to keep their season alive. The Farmers play third-seeded Fleming on Saturday; the winner advances to the semis, where top-seeded Merino awaits.
Centauri (3A) and Sanford (2A) were both eliminated from the state tournament on Friday.
