CENTER - On July 4, Center enjoyed a Fourth of July celebration at Casa Blanca Park.
There were two food trucks parked near the park, serving barbecue, American and Mexican food, and one the corner of the park a band played tunes. A few small children could be seen dancing near the music, and one child looked like she was singing with a snow cone to a nice Spanish tune.
People sat under the pavilion listening to music and eating. Kids played on the playground equipment in the corner of the park and kicked a soccer ball.
Corrine Salazar was at the celebration and stated that she is happy that the town of Center has more activities and more going on, “It’s been great. My son lives in town and he’s always looking for things to do. He lives in Center, but works in Alamosa, and it’s hard when there is nothing fun in town. I think these festivals are good for the town. I hope they can have more and bring in more live music.”
In one of the park's corners, there was a booth where people were selling cold drinks, Colorado customized apparel and other customized items.
Around 9:30 p.m., Center had a brilliant fireworks display. Fireworks of all colors lit up the sky, as people watched, pointed, and cheered.
Thomas Trujillo was at the park along with his wife, Anna, and they both said that they enjoyed being part of a hometown celebration.
“It’s nice to be out and for the air to be a little fresh, and we are just enjoying the family. We have family everywhere. We have cousins here, and all over the valley, and you know people just like to get together and enjoy stuff like this. It’s not expensive and you can bring your own snacks. The kids have fun because it’s at the park, and you can just relax the day before you have to go back to work. We are happy to be here celebrating together,” he said.
